A Special Thank You to Tom Mighell

Tom Mighell, one of the lawyers on the leading edge of Web logs, was kind enough to spend a long lunch with me, giving advice on getting my own blog up and running. Tom recommended Typepad software, and it has proven extremely easy to use. It doesn't have quite the flexibility I would prefer (or maybe I just haven't discovered those features), but overall, I am very happy with it.

My blog may never get to the level of Tom's inter alia blog, but he's given me a goal to shoot for. Thank you Tom.

Invitation to Join the North Dallas Bar Association

I am currently President of the North Dallas Bar Association. The NDBA is a small but active group of lawyers with diverse practices. Despite the name, there is no geographical restriction, and we have members from all over the Dallas area. We meet the second Tuesday evening of each month at 6:30 at Brookhaven Country Club for a buffet dinner and a one-hour Continuing Legal Education presentation. The CLE is free, and the dinner is only $20.

The NDBA is a good source for new business, both from referrals from other members and from the NDBA Yellow Page listing. Calls are routed through an answering service and then passed to members based on practice areas. Please e-mail me if you're interested in more details.

Attorney's Guide to Microsoft Office

For those lawyers like me who are often technologically-challenged, there is a very good new book available to guide us through the Microsoft Office System. The book is appropriately titled The Attorney's Guide to the Microsoft Office System, and is available from Agility Press. The book covers use of Word 2003, Excel 2003, PowerPoint 2003, Outlook 2003, and OneNote 2003. If you are not a user of OneNote, you should check it out. You can get a free trial copy from Microsoft.
